BoxTrolls

When I'm thinking about effective set designs and backgrounds BoxTrolls comes into mind and it has one of the most beautiful set designs I've seen in a stop motion animation. The picture on the right is one of my favourites because most sets are designed to be wide to fit the 1080p ratio, but this set has been designed so that the camera can go inside the set and pan up and down so that you can see all the 'magic' that's going on in the seen. The amount of materials they've used is incredible because they have to show that the boxtrolls have a lot of collections. Another reason why I like the BoxTrolls set is that you wont find cotton made clouds because they actually used a particular fabric and threads stitched to give a specific look. But after the clouds were created the animators then used CG to generate the clouds. The film also used more spacious sets and bigger environments, larger  crowds, things that are sometimes compromised on stop motion films, which tend to give them a small set table top feel. Boxtrolls is Laika's biggest film they have made yet!
