About E4

The channel E4 is a British TV channel, launched as a pay-TV companion to Channel 4 on the 18th of January 2001. the 'E' actually means Entertainment, and the channel is mainly aimed at the lucrative 16-35 year olds. Whats interesting about this is that on the 11th of October 2010 the E4 channel has about 3.7 million views watching an episode of 'The Inbertweeners'.

This channel may include programs such as: The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Brooklyn 99, Hollyoaks, New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, The 100, Marry Me, Revenge, Made In Chelsea... etc. So you can see that most of these shows are about young adults lives and events so the audience that watches these shows can sometime relate to the problems that are happening in the program.

Sequence of 12 images

Throughout this story, which is about the word flight, I've decided to make it about free running because it's a different way of interpreting the word flight. The story is about how a women's handbag as gotten stolen and a free runner chases down the thief while parkour-ing around obstacles and jumping off buildings. In the end the free runner catches the thief and gives the handbag back to the woman.

You Spin My Right Round

This is my turn around of the only/most coolest object which are red Beats headphones. to create this video I used photoshop to draw out the object but sketchy then I when over the drawing again but in a thinker pen, afterwards I tried to colour it in but like half way through the colour actually changes which is a bit annoying. I also got told that the headphones come off the page when they spin around so I'll have to go back and just alter it so it doesn't do than. The one thing I like about it is that I think it's a consistent size when the headphones spin around but it was hard to achieve this because I used a place mat to help me spin the headphones around. However, the couple of things that I would change about the turn around is the colour being consistent and I would make the outlines of the headphones thinker and not sketch like just to make it look more appealing to view.

Introduction to Maya 3D Modelling Software

Throughout this project we've been introduced to a new animation software called Maya, which is a 3D modelling software.

Just to get us used to Maya we had to model a truck, which you can see on the left. Are tutor gave us a complicated guide to follow throughout the process of modelling it. We got left to do it on our own so my experience with Maya was hard at first but when I got use to it got easier to understand.

After we had finished to modelling stage we then had to put different materials to the truck, so I had fun making the truck drive on water and have a see through trailer on the back of the truck.
Afterwards we then had to create our own model with a toy or object we have. With my own object I decided to model a toy tank that I have back home but my maya skills aren't great enough to figure out how to put the army cammo on the tank. I also wanted to make the back of the tank to shape downwards because thats what my to tank does.

Visual Language: Take 5 Experimentation

For this task we had to listen ti the sounds and draw what we thought we heard by using different materials, methods and techniques. Some of the sounds are easier to work out what they are like a firework or an explosion, but some others where more difficult to work out so thats why the drawings beneath might look abstract.

These were done by using water colour and a light paint brush.
This one on the left was created using pastel but this isn't my favourite piece because the sound was difficult to work out and I didn't really know what to do.
With the one on the right and bottom they were different ways of drawing the firework noise.

These were created using water colour again but with a more dens brush stroke.

The one on above was created by using water colour pencil and the sound was a long whistle and then a crack.
With the one above I used again water colour but I tried to use one constant brush stroke because the sound was a calm melody.

On the right was a sound that I didn't use because I found it too difficult to animate so I changed it.

Feedback and reflections

The feedback I got for this was that maybe the straight line in the middle could be more 'jagged', also the red shape could of done with lesser gradient because it's too '80's'.
With this animation people said that they liked that I'd experimented with different media, and that the wave was well animated. But another thing they said was that the explosion could of been messier.
People didn't seem to like the audio spectrum I used in this animation but they liked the ball popping at the end. At some point I might change my idea for this animation and do something with traditional animation.
In this sound animation they like the style of it because it fitted the music well, and they liked how the ends dropped down while the squiggle moves around.
People have said that this animation felt too uniform and that the shapes are a bit off so I might have to change that at some point. They also said that it worked well with the sound but I could look at the movement more.

Take 5 Sound Animations

Applied Animation: Studio Brief 2a

For this brief we have to choose between three different types of task, which are; to create two idents for the TV both 10 seconds long each and these include the channels E4, BBC 4, Discovery channel, CBeebies, Amnesty International, and childline. The second task we have to produce is a trailer for a book that we've read but that has not already been made into an animation and has to last for 20-30 seconds long. The final task that we can choose is to produce an animation for a charity to show what they do to help and has to last for 30 seconds long.

So for my project I have chosen to create the two ident animations for the TV channels E4 and BBC 4 because I feel that I can relate to them more and be experimental with my creations, this is because I don't read books so the second task I wouldn't be able to do and the third task will be a bit boring for me because charity isn't my type of thing.

BoxTrolls

When I'm thinking about effective set designs and backgrounds BoxTrolls comes into mind and it has one of the most beautiful set designs I've seen in a stop motion animation. The picture on the right is one of my favourites because most sets are designed to be wide to fit the 1080p ratio, but this set has been designed so that the camera can go inside the set and pan up and down so that you can see all the 'magic' that's going on in the seen. The amount of materials they've used is incredible because they have to show that the boxtrolls have a lot of collections. Another reason why I like the BoxTrolls set is that you wont find cotton made clouds because they actually used a particular fabric and threads stitched to give a specific look. But after the clouds were created the animators then used CG to generate the clouds. The film also used more spacious sets and bigger environments, larger  crowds, things that are sometimes compromised on stop motion films, which tend to give them a small set table top feel. Boxtrolls is Laika's biggest film they have made yet!

Animator Vs Amination IV

In this animation about an animator trying to catch a stick figure you can see that that way the animator uses the environment effectively. He does this be making the stick figures clime around the computers work surface and windows that are open. One of the things I like about this animation is that the stick figures can manipulate the surroundings by breaking thing and for example drawing something out of nothing and then it coming to life so that it can help defeat the animator. I also like how the camera doesn't just stay in one point but it zooms in on the stick figures so you can see what they're trying to manipulate, like escaping from boxes that the animator put them in. Another great aspect of this animation was that the stick figure didn't stay on the computer but actually went into the phone that was plugged into the computer, so that the scale changed from being a wide screen to being a tall screen.

Spatiometric By Casetofoane (Animated By Fung Lam)

This 2D animation is a visual representation of the song Spatiometric by Casetofoane, which uses different shapes to create the illusion of sound waves, he also does this to show the feel and mood of the sound. I like how each instrument has a different shape and colour so that you know what shape is representing what sound, and i also like how he's used few shapes in the animation because it makes the flow smoother and more effective to watch. This is the kind of style that I've done my animations for sound visualising in because I feel that I can be creative while keeping a modern look about it.

Thought of You - Ryan Woodward

In this piece of animation is traditional by being hand drawn and they've set the seen to be plain/blank so that effectively gives all the focus on the characters because they'er the ones telling the story. The animation has created a visual understanding of what the song is interpreting and throughout the animation the characters are dancing but while they're dancing they are also slowly changing how there being drawn. For the composition of the animation and the camera placement he kept it in one place because he, Woodward, wanted the characters to show emotion through the movement and not getting close up on there faces to see their emotions. Ryan has also a great shadowing effect on one of the characters, which adds weight and depth to the character, which can show even more emotion to the animation.
